We had been traveling for a long time, apparently getting three non-Hyperboreans to the royal city of Riftrun without attracting attention was harder than any of us thought it would be. Everyone was curious when they sensed how different our minds were.
Niall and Dresden were alternating spending time masking our thoughts and minds so no one got too close. It was draining for them, but probably more so for Dresden since he was still recovering from his time in the origin realm and training with us in Atlantis.
"What about your aunt? Do you think she could help us? I mean she's the one that sent you the letter, right?" Griff asked as we tried to come up with ways to get in the city without attracting any more attention. Even better if we could get into the palace itself.
There was nothing I wasn't willing to try to help get Tessa back, so I was all for using whatever resources we could find. Including family.
When I glanced over at Dres he looked slightly panicked.
Which was weird.
"What's wrong?" Kai grunted. He'd been especially salty ever since Niall showed up.
Dres hesitated for a moment but Niall must have picked up on whatever was going on in his head because surprise showed on the other man's face. When it became obvious Dres was trying to come up with something to tell us other than the truth I crossed my arms over my chest and stared at him.

After another tense second he deflated like a balloon. Whatever it was he was trying to avoid telling us, it wasn't going to work any longer.
"My aunt is dead, died right after I was born," he said quietly.
"Wait, what?" Griff asked, sounding confused.
I couldn't blame the guy, I was right there with him.
I glanced around the faces of our little group and the only people who seemed to know what was going on were Dresden and Niall. Carefully, Kai said, "You said your aunt was the one who sent you the letter. Was it a different aunt?"
Dresden shook his head. "I only had one that I was aware of."
"So we came to Hyperborea based on a letter you received from someone pretending to be your aunt?" Kai asked. I couldn't tell if he was genuinely trying to spell it out or could tell that I was still confused, but as soon as he spoke I knew what he was getting at.
Dresden just nodded.
"So we could have gone straight to El Dorado to deal with the shit storm that's happening there?" Griff snarled.
"Based on what the letter said I thought it was a good idea to come and investigate.
